Plates
What types of plates are there?
There are different types of plates, each with its own size and purpose. You use a breakfast plate for breakfast and lunch, a cake plate for cake and desserts, a dinner plate for the main course and a deep plate for soup or pasta. A charger plate goes underneath for an extra festive table. Start the day with a cheerful breakfast plate for your toast or croissant, or serve a slice of cake on a cake plate when visitors pop round for coffee. That way, even an ordinary weekday moment gets a festive touch.
How do you combine different plates?
You combine plates by playing with colour, print and size. For example, choose one colour as your base and mix different designs within it, or place a floral plate on a plain dinner plate. At Pip, nothing has to match: from soft pink and lilac to deep, dark red and classic blue, all the collections are designed to be combined with each other. A heart-shaped plate here and there makes it even more playful. Add a well-filled fruit bowl in the centre and your table is instantly complete.
Are porcelain plates suitable for everyday use?
Yes, porcelain is sturdy, which makes it perfect for eating from every day. All Pip Studio plates are made from porcelain, giving them a refined and elegant look. So you can use them just as easily for a quick lunch as for a warming soup in a deep plate. Our prints are designed in our own studio, with an eye for every detail. That makes the plates not only lovely to eat from, but also picture-perfect in your china cabinet or on an open shelf in the kitchen.
What sizes do plates come in?
Plates come in sizes from about 12 to 32 cm, and each size has its own use. For a chocolate, biscuit or small dessert, choose a 12 cm petit four plate, while a 17 cm cake plate is ideal for cake or a snack between meals. A breakfast plate is usually 21 to 23 cm and a dinner plate 26.5 to 28 cm. Deep plates have a diameter of around 21.5 to 23.5 cm. A 32 cm charger plate gives every dish a generous presentation.
